Grand Guignol Diabolique is a strange beast in the current music scene. Moreover, it refuses any cataloging and for this reason it finds no space, if not in the niche of aficionados always looking for something that detaches itself from the general grayish flatness.
So it's much easier to tell you what Grand Guignol Diabolique IS NOT : it's not funky, it's not disco, it's not rap, it's not hip hop, it's not trap, it's not commercial pop, it's not electronic music, it's not folk, it's not techno, it's not heavy metal, it's not Latin, it's not a lot of things. It's just what you don't expect to hear. It is the desire to transport the listener (male or female) into a parallel world, a sort of "Alice in Wonderland", where nothing is taken for granted, where songs are at the center of everything and they are real songs that don't look for shortcuts effects to attract attention. Songs where anything can happen and where 1 + 1 will hardly make 2.
It is logical that to achieve this, musical influences over the years have abounded. These are perhaps the most significant in terms of creating an autonomous style:
The Beatles, Soundgarden, The Who, Nirvana, Xtc, Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, Jeff Buckley, David Bowie, The Queen, Stevie Wonder, Frank Zappa, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Japan, Peter Gabriel, The Kinks , The Jam & Paul Weller, Afterhours, Luigi Tenco, Jimi Hendrix, Serge Gainsbourg, etc ... etc ....
And the list could go on and on, with the most disparate names, because (albeit with different musical projects) we are in the world of music "created and played" since the 80s ...
The "Grand Guignol Diabolique" sound is a rough, cutting sound, made up mostly of guitars that pierce the silence. But it does not disdain electronic forays either, as for example in "Nessuno vale", one of the tracks of the new CD "Lingua (DeLuxe version)" and in countless other songs in which synths and keyboards envelop the guitars to create different panoramas. , but ALWAYS with priority over melody, harmonies and rhythm, the real beating heart of the Grandguignoldiabolesque sound...
All this will perhaps be dramatically counter-current if not even a suicidal project, given that the establishment is clearly challenged, which is now based on a single meatloaf of musical proposals all rigorously "up to standard" and hyper trivial, but Grand Guignol Diabolique is a continuous challenge.
